Discussion Board Reflections about Policing and Abolition

June 2023

My Honors 230 class, "Prison Logics and Abolitionist Futures," has been one of my most enjoyable and intellectually fulfilling learning experiences so far. Not only do we engage in critical readings across a variety of disciplines, our class time is rife with nuanced discussions about (in my opinion) some of the most pressing and challenging political issues of our time. A huge part of those conversations are extended into our online discussion boards, where we reflect on particular readings assigned for the week and interact with each others ideas. I was especially excited when we started discussing prisons in context to Settler Colonial frameworks; drawing on my existing knowledge, I was hugely excited to share my understandings and ideas with the rest of my discussion group. This artifact is a screenshot of a discussion post that I'm most proud of so far, although knowing the trajectory of my Prison Abolition class, I'm sure that it won't be long before my mind dances to another interesting question.
